Early Adopters
We are currently working with or looking for a select number of companies in key markets (produce, fish, flowers, pharma and adhesives) who want to “push the envelope” in what we call “product integrity monitoring”. Our current early adopters are quality-driven first-and-foremost and are looking at how Freshtime™ tags and software can provide a competitive edge based on freshness. Our first pilots have included both small and large growers, packers, consolidators, truckers, distributors and retailers—some computer savvy and some not. They are testing the tags inside cases as well as on the outside; on reusable plastic containers, on 1-use cardboard cases and as shipping labels. Some currently use UCC barcodes and some do not. Some are EPCglobal subscribers, others are trying to learn about RFID while others don’t even want to know the word RFID. NOTE: You do not need an RFID network to use our Freshtime™ tags. Infratab can provide you with tags preconfigured for your perishables as well as summary reports about what happened during the cold chain (with the caveat that you or your distributor send us back the Freshtime™ tags). With no RFID anyone can find out the status of your tagged perishable by pushing a button on the tag and noting whether a green or red light appears. With an RFID reader, either handheld or portal, and Freshtime™ software, you get much, much more information—and you won’t need Infratab to configure tags and output data. For those who have or are planning an RFID network, Infratab Freshtime™ tags and software are compatible today with RFID readers and middleware supporting ISO UHF 18000-6B. Tests are scheduled for late Q4 2005 for RFID installations supporting EPCglobal Network™ EPC Class 1 Gen 2 and/or ISO HF 18000-3. Early Adopter Commitment We do ask several things of our early adopters. First that we work together to document your existing cold chain. Next that we understand your shelf life data for the tagged products; that you identify key alert conditions; and that together we set key performance indicators for success.
